Eclectic is one of my favorite words.
It's a bouncy sort of word that has a life of it's own. A singular word encompasses an array of possibilities. I use it at every available opportunity and fitting it in to casual conversation earns a mental high five to myself (I get the same joy from "exasperated", but that's Simon Pegg's doing).
I have to Google "eclectic" every time I want to use it to double check my spelling and I always work my mouth carefully around each syllable, some part of my mind always certain that I'm pronouncing it wrong.
One segment of letters mashed together can summon memories, emotions, smells, the whole of human experience can be brought down to words--if one chooses them carefully.
That is the beauty of language. A living entity that lifts humanity it the next level. Grammar and spelling are important but even they fail to contain and imprison language. It morphs with every word that is spoken, evolving as those words make it to the page, and lives on as they are read.
That is why I chose "The Eclective" as a title. I couldn't pin down something succinct and descriptive enough to encompass who I am and what this project will be about. No, it's not a real word...but it could be. Isn't that great?
Also, I couldn't decide if "Tea Kettle" was one word or two and everything else just seemed so damn pretentious (Writer's Rehab, Scribe,..something to do with Alice in Wonderland..)
All that's left to say (because there was probably a point hidden in all of this) is welcome, Reader. I hope you don't mind taking the scenic route because this is going to be a long trip.
